{"id":2281,"date":"2016-06-03T13:59:35","date_gmt":"2016-06-03T03:59:35","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.petersofkensington.com.au\/blog\/?p=2281"},"modified":"2016-11-18T11:28:27","modified_gmt":"2016-11-18T00:28:27","slug":"video-the-tastes-of-turkey-with-somer-sivrioglu","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www2.petersofkensington.com.au\/blog\/video-the-tastes-of-turkey-with-somer-sivrioglu\/","title":{"rendered":"Video: The Tastes of Turkey with Somer Sivrioglu"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Nearly a week has passed,\u00a0but we&#8217;re still daydreaming about the delicious dishes chef Somer Sivrioglu prepared for us last Saturday when he\u00a0took over the Peter&#8217;s Demonstration Kitchen for what was one of our best events yet.<\/p>\n<p>This was Somer&#8217;s second\u00a0visit to Peter&#8217;s\u00a0(<a href=\"http:\/\/www.petersofkensington.com.au\/blog\/?p=88\" target=\"_blank\">click here to take a look at the video from Somer&#8217;s first time in out kitchen<\/a>) so we knew our tastebuds were in for a treat. Naturally, Somer didn&#8217;t disappoint&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>Born and raised in Istanbul, Somer&#8217;s passion for food was influenced by his mother, a chef and restaurateur. Somer arrived in Sydney in 1995, aged 25, bringing with him a love of urban Turkish cuisine and culture, as well as a culinary vision he was determined to make a reality.<\/p>\n<p>Since then, Somer\u2019s award-winning Balmain restaurant, Efendy, has gone from strength to strength. His newest venture, Anason Meze Bar at Barangaroo opened its doors earlier this year. Then, there\u2019s Somer\u2019s first book, <em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.petersofkensington.com.au\/Public\/Book-Anatolia-Adventures-In-Turkish-Cooking.aspx\" target=\"_blank\">Anatolia \u2013 Adventures in Turkish Cooking<\/a><\/em>, which has picked up a heap of awards and nominations. Somer\u2019s co-author, journalist David Dale, has hailed Somer as \u2018the next Ottolenghi\u2019.\u00a0Once you&#8217;ve seen Somer in action, you&#8217;ll understand why.<\/p>\n<p>At\u00a0Saturday&#8217;s event, Somer cooked some of his favourite Turkish meals for us, including\u00a0Atom, Imam Bayildi, Gavurdagi, Sleeping Figs\u00a0&#8211; and finally,\u00a0chocolate and almond medjool dates.
